To the invitation of event organizer, Gao Shuqun, Standing Deputy Secretary of Nishan Forum on World Civilizations, attended UNAOC Asia South Pacific Regional Consultation and delivered a speech, in which he made three proposals on cooperation between Nishan Forum and UNAOC. At the beginning of the speech, Mr. Gao conveyed to UNAOC Consultation Shanghai the following greetings from Xu Jialu, Vice Chairman of NPC Standing Committee and President of Nishan Forum on World Civilizations: it will be of great significance for the UNAOC to convene Asia South Pacific Regional Consultations in Shanghai when the world is about to enter year 2013. In recent years, Asia or Asia Pacific, including South Pacific region, has become one of the regions with the world's special attention. It is our common responsibility to promote the region's peaceful, harmonious and mutually beneficial development. The organizing committee of Nishan Forum on World Civilizations is willing to cooperate with the UNAOC and other Asian parties to make our efforts to “achieve harmony through diversity and dialogue in Asia and South Pacific”. During his speech, Mr. Gao also dwelled on the initiation, tenets and features of Nishan Forum on World Civilizations and major events it launched in the last 5 years. Given the new emerging situation where UNAOC seeks to create a "new framework of regional cooperation" in terms of culture and civilization in Asia and South Pacific regions, Mr. Gao made three proposals on behalf of the organizing committee of Nishan Forum on World Civilizations: (1) UNAOC and Nishan Forum and other organizations should cooperate with each other to strive to establish a cross-border, cross-region and cross-civilization alliance for dialogue among civilizations in Asia and South Pacific; create a mode and mechanism for the exchange, communication, misjudgment prevention and conflict settlement among all civilizations and subcultures, and last but not the least, build a “new platform for regional cooperation”. (2) The headquarters of Asian Alliance for Dialogue among Civilizations should be established in Shanghai or Nishan, China. And its branches should be set up in other Asian regions. Thus, a work system covering the whole Asia will be created for the UNAOC. If the headquarters is set up in Nishan, Nishan Forum organizing committee is willing to take on the headquarters’ daily operation and tasks. If the headquarters is set up in Shanghai or other Asian city, Nishan Forum organizing committee will apply for the establishment of liaison offices for the Asian Alliance for Dialogue among Civilizations, and shoulder the responsibilities assigned by the Alliance. (3) The first annual meeting of Asian Alliance for Dialogue among Civilizations, i.e. the 12th United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development should be held in Nishan on May 21st, 2014. Dialogue and fellowship activities among young people of the whole Asia will be initiated at the first stage. The special film about Nishan Forum on World Civilizations played during the speech aroused interest of all consultation participants and the question of when the 3rd Nishan Forum should be convened became an intensively discussed topic. It’s reported that this UNAOC Consultation Shanghai has attracted a great number of organizations from China mainland and UNAOC is considering setting up offices in mainland cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Nishan, etc.
